Muchurinsk Drama Theatre is worth of special attention. It is a wonderful gray building with numerous stucco mouldings designed in classic style with a touch of art nouveau that was in fashion back in the day (1913). The theatre was located in Piteynaya Street which is known as Gogolevskaya now. Both names of the street are symbolic enough for the temple of muses. The best view of the building is from the opposite side of the street where you can enjoy the amazing main façade of the theater with four columns in a semicircular niche.
Interesting enough, this building was originally meant to house the theatre (the former theatre building transformed from a tabaccoo factory burnt down). There is no other such example in Tambov region. Another interesting fact: the construction of the theatre was sponsored by the Michurinsk citizens, devoted art lovers.
The stage of Michurinsk theatre has seen such famous actors as Yuri Yakovlev, Evgeny Leonov, Anatoly Papanov, Valery Zolotukhin, Alisa Freindlikh, Maya Plisetskaya, Yakov Rafalson. The People’s Artists of USSR like Tatyana Peltzer, Vasily Lanovoy, Andrey Mironov used to go on tours here and act in the theatre plays.
